Interactive Ethics and Compliance Learning Experience for Client-Facing Staff
Turning integrity into decision-driven learning
CLIENT
Big 4 accounting and professional services firm
AUDIENCE
Newly hired client-facing professionals across the organization
CHALLENGE
-
The Mandate: Create a clever, highly interactive approach to ethics and compliance to replace ineffective, forgettable training for client-facing professionals
-
The Trust Gap: Establish credibility for an innovative nontraditional design approach within a professional, conservative, and risk-averse environment with exceptionally high standards
-
The Stakes: Guarantee that learners understand, retain, and consistently apply critical rules and behaviors in real-world situations where errors could result in severe financial, legal, and reputational consequences
SOLUTION
I designed a highly interactive, scenario-based video learning experience. Each topic was structured like a Netflix-style series, beginning with a narrator who introduced the purpose for the learner before guiding them into a sequence of interconnected episodes.
Each series contained 5–7 episodes, with each episode presenting a realistic workplace situation that naturally flowed into the next, creating a continuous storyline. Within each episode, learners engaged with unfolding scenarios involving client-facing professionals, and at key decision points, a narrator introduced “what if” questions that prompted learners to make ethical and compliant choices.
To further increase engagement and memorability, I designed scripted “commercials” based on familiar consumer-style messaging to add humor and variety. I also created rhyming “jingles” to reinforce key compliance concepts in a format learners would recall more easily.
